The Charcuteria Story

Charcuteria was born from a simple love affair with Mediterranean food culture and the art of aperitivo—that beautiful Italian tradition of gathering with friends over drinks and small bites before dinner.

After years of traveling through Italy, Spain, France, and Greece, experiencing countless wine bars, mercados, and neighborhood enotecas, we realized Washington, DC was missing this kind of authentic, accessible Mediterranean gathering space. We envisioned a place that could be many things: your neighborhood wine bar, your go-to specialty market, your lunch spot, your catering solution, and your community hub.

The name "Charcuteria" plays on the Spanish word for a shop specializing in charcuterie and delicatessen goods. We chose it because it captures both the approachability and authenticity we wanted to bring to U Street—a place where premium quality meets everyday enjoyment.

Opening in Spring 2026, Charcuteria represents our commitment to creating experiences that honor Mediterranean traditions while serving our Washington, DC community. Co-Founder & General Manager

Eugene brings over a decade of fine dining and wine bar expertise to Charcuteria. With extensive experience managing acclaimed restaurants and developing beverage programs, he has a deep understanding of what makes a hospitality experience truly exceptional. His passion for wine education and curation drives our carefully selected wine list and retail offerings.

Eugene's vision for Charcuteria stems from years spent exploring wine regions and enotecas throughout Europe, always noting how food and wine bring communities together. He's committed to bringing that same sense of warmth and discovery to Washington, DC.

Katie Catalano

Katie Catalano

Co-Founder & Operations Director

Katie's decade-plus career in hospitality operations and event management makes her the perfect partner to bring Charcuteria to life. Her experience spans restaurant operations, catering coordination, and creating memorable guest experiences. She has a talent for balancing the big picture with the smallest details that make a business run smoothly.

Katie fell in love with Mediterranean market culture during her travels through Spain and Italy, where she discovered how markets serve as community gathering places. At Charcuteria, she's dedicated to creating that same welcoming atmosphere while ensuring every operational detail supports an outstanding guest experience.
